Within the greater Naples/Bonita area, over 100 golf courses dot the landscape, plus more in South Ft. Myers and in Marco. The large majority of these are private country clubs, with a large variety of price ranges for initiation fees and annual dues.
Local golf course architects have gone to great lengths to preserve and emphasize the natural beauty of each site, and added to the ambience with their own embellishments. Every major designer plus a number of professional player designers have left their signature on at least one area course, including Pete & P.B. Dye, Robert Trent Jones Jr. & Sr., Robert Van Hagge, Arthur Hills, Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Gary Player, and many more. Naples provides plenty of cultural opportunitie s year-round.  The Naples Philharmonic is an excellent venue for taking in some music.  Whether you are in the mood for Beethoven, Brubeck, or the Beatles, you can find it here.  And if you can't make it to New York, don't worry, Broadway will come to you.  The Chorus Line, The Color Purple, Movin' On, and Riverdance are just a few of the hits that have or will grace the stage.  Located directly next door is the Naples Museum of Art.  Featuring several collections, including American Modernism, Masters of Miniature, and Mexican Masters; as well as special exhibitions throughout the season, this is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. And don't miss the Dale Chihuly Persian Ceiling exhibit; it is spectacular.  Other places worth visiting include the Naples Holocaust Museum, Naples Palm Cottage, the Botanical Gardens, the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, just to name a few.

If you don't mind driving a short distance you can head north to Ft. Myers and visit the Barbara B. Mann Theater for a live show, the Edison & Ford Winter Estates for some great history about two of our greatest eventors, or, if you are here during the winter season, you might catch a baseball game with the Boston Red Sox.

Shopping in the greater Naples/Bonita Springs area has many options available these days.  From the Third Street South and Fifth Avenue areas of old Naples, the designer laden outdoor venue of Waterside Shops and Venetian Village to the newer Coconut Point Mall there are so many choices.  And if outlets are your thing, don't forget Miramar Outlets in Estero.  In addition, Naples is famous for it's art galleries and attracts the attention of world-class artisans at the Naples National Art Festival.  For more shopping information check out this guide.

Recreation areas abound in Naples.  With its beautiful sunny weather how could it help but be a place where people want to be outside playing.  Whatever you are into you can almost be guaranteed to find it here.  From obvious choices like golfing, tennis, biking, running, and swimming to kayaking, sailboarding, charter fishing, surfing, kitesailing, and more, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy.  There are plenty of activities for the young ones too.  Collier County Parks and Recreation offer many wonderful choices for children and the Sun-N-Fun Lagoon is a great way to spend a Saturday.  Here are some more recreational ideas.

Aw, dining.  Who doesn't enjoy dining out?  Naples has so many fabulous restaurants to choose from on any given day, sometimes it's hard to decide.  Do you feel in the mood for seafood?  Italian?  Sushi?  Whatever taste you are after Naples has plenty to offer.  There are chains, such as The Cheesecake Factory, Carrabbas, and The Capital Grille to be sure.  However, not to be outdone, there are many locally owned venues to choose from as well.  Naples Originals is an excellent resource for discovering the unique local flavor in Naples dining options.  Some of my personal favorites include Amore Ristorante (ask for the Pork Paillard), Sunburst Cafe, and Real Seafood Company (best deal is sitting at the bar and ordering off their appetizer menu - so good!)  Check out this Dining Guide for more ideas.

The Early Years

There are some things that are uniquely Naples.  For example, the Swamp Buggy Races.  Collier County's early development in the 1930's and 1940's was highlighted by the emergance of strange looking vehicles featuring huge balloon tires, gun racks, and usually sporting an unusual name like "Dirt Dobber or Tumblebug". These buggies were born out of necessity, as there was no effective way to penetrate the vast, boggy mire known as Collier county except for the versatile "Swamp Buggy".  The beginnings of Swamp Buggy Racing was seen as a gathering of hunters. As legend has it, every year, just prior to the opening of hunting season, (usually the end of October or early November) all the "Crackers" would spend a week or so preparing their buggies for the first legal day of hunting. Today residents celebrate this history with the annual race and final dunking of the Swamp Buggy Queen.  This is definitely one event you won't want to miss. Another fun event is the annual Great Dock Canoe Race.  It was in the spring of 1977 that a new restaurant, The Dock at Crayton Cove, decided to throw an end-of-season party to celebrate its first year. Because of its waterfront setting, a canoe race seemed a natural. Twenty-five contestants and about 150 spectators participated in that first race. No one realized they had witnessed the birth of a tradition.
Today, the Annual Great Dock Canoe Race is arguably Naples' most popular event. Contestants and spectators travel from throughout the country to race and watch, and thousands of people, from young children to grandparents, celebrate the Race on land, dock and bay.
If you're looking for something a little less zany but just as spectacular, head over to the
Corkscrew Sanctuary.  Located in northeast Naples, the Sanctuary is a 2.25-mile raised boardwalk that takes visitors through four distinct environments: a pine upland, a wet prairie, a cypress forest, and a marsh.  Although wildlife sightings vary depending on the time of year, the weather, and even the time of day, birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, and a variety of native plants including wild orchids may be seen from the boardwalk.  This is a great spot to walk quietly among nature, take photographs or simply enjoy what Florida has to offer.
Another wonderful destination for nature lovers is the
Rookery Bay Estuarine Center.  The research reserve has many opportunities for learning about the water life in and around Naples Bay and Marco Island.  Take a walking or kayaking tour and discover upclose wildlife as you travel through mangroves and oyster beds.  You may even discover the frolicsome dolphins or spot a native manatee.

"The best decision I made when I bought my new home was to have Christine Citrano as my real estate agent.  I was ready to buy and I wanted a fast, easy closing with no major issues and that is exactly what she delivered.  It only took her 8 business days to put in my offer and close the deal.  On day 8, she handed me the keys to my new house!  It was unbelievable.  From the moment I called Christine she was available morning, noon and night to answer all of my questions and to make sure every tedious detail was completed so we could close the day I requested.  I was astounded by her professionalism, her calm demeanor, her unwavering confidence and her genuine sincerity.  I am grateful to Christine for making my home-buying experience so enjoyable which added to the excitement of moving into my new home.  It was my fortune to have met her!"

"Thank you for helping us purchase our vacation home in Naples, Florida.  Buying a home in a foreign country seemed daunting without the benefit of local knowledge of the community and the real estate market.  We were concerned about our ability to make the right choices and decisions on a transaction of such financial and personal magnitude.  That all changed when we met you.  From our very first meeting we were impressed by the time you spent trying to understand who we were, what our goals were, and what we wanted in a property.  Your knowledge, resourcefulness and professionalism were exceptional.  You took the time to explain the details of the local market, the neighborhoods and all of the documents and many other pieces of information as they became relevant.  Most importantly, you earned our trust.  You operated with honesty and integrity.  You are a consummate professional and an excellent ambassador for your country and your real estate firm.  Thanks to you our dream home is a reality."

"I would like to convey my appreciation to you in the recent sale of our home in North Naples.  This sale was made more challenging by the constantly changing requests by certain parties involved in the process.  However, through your tireless efforts, attention to detail, knowledge of the industry and highly effective communications, the sale was successfully consummated.

My wife and I would highly recommend your services to anyone interested in selling or purchasing a home.  Thanks again for the great job you did for us."

Vernon A. Raile, Bismarck, ND

"Christine showed us several houses and was always looking for what we wanted.  Her honesty and dependability were traits that we would easily recommend to others.  Thank you...we love our new home and are thrilled with the service we received!"

Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Connelly, Naples, FL

"When a realtor that we know and trusted in Atlanta recommended that we work with you we had no doubt that we were in for a good experience.  That experience could not have been more professinal, curious, or rewarding.  From our requirements, unique challenges of downsizing and consolidating you were with us every step of the way.  While visiting many properties, you were always patient and listened to ensure our needs were being met.  You understood what we were looking for.  The house we ended up buying was not an easy sell.  We went back at least three times to ensure that we wanted to purchase it.  You were patient, understanding, and accomodating to us.  Our experience was wonderful.  Christine and the whole John R. Wood team worked tirelessly to ensure that we were kept abreast of the developments along the way.  Good job!"

Mr. and Mrs. Scott Tonarelli, Atlanta GA

"It is unusual in any business to find a gem like Christine Citrano.  Christine went out of her way to show me around when I was new to the area.  Her warmth, reliability, professionalism and expertise will make your transition a most positive experience.  Christine is that rare individual who will go above and beyond your expectations and, simply, gets the job done."

R. Karter, Gladwyne PA

"Christine worked very hard, and spent time and money...she is a credit to her company.  John R. Wood is lucky to have her on their team.  We will not forget her."

Mr. and Mrs. James Batillo, Long Island NY

"We are enjoying our home immensely and feel that we have Christine Citrano to thank for that.  Christine has been our realtor and has truly been a pleasure to work with.  We have bought and sold real estate through Christine.  We found her to be knowledgeable, professional and a skillful negotiator on our behalf.  She stays on top of the market and knows what property values are.  She knows how to communicate this information to her clients so that realistic pricing is reached.  She makes herself accessible to her clients and is extremely conscientious.  We have already recommended her to many of our friends for their real estate needs and we feel very comfortable continuing to do so.  It has been our privilege to work with Chrsitine Citrano!"

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hyman, Naples, FL

"I was born and raised in Naples and after spending ten years in Washington DC my wife and I decided to move back. We met Christine and felt her personality and understanding of the market matched what we were looking for in an agent. Christine was extremely patient with us, spending nearly a year going through multiple properties of all sorts. We finally found a gem. It was a foreclosed home and one we had passed in previous searches, but never went in because it was out of our price range. The day the home hit the MLS after being foreclosed on we toured it and fell in love. The home was in need of a lot of TLC, but mostly cosmetic. We put an offer in the very same day and because of market conditions I put the bid in very, very low. Christine advised that the offer was probably too low, but was worth a shot as long as my wife and I were willing to lose the property to someone making an honest offer.

Christine worked the selling agent hard to get an approval and we closed on the house shortly thereafter.

I would recommend Christine to anyone who wants an honest and respectful agent. She understands market conditions and listens to what you're looking for in a home. She knows the neighborhoods and is able to match buyers with what they really want."

"Christine Citrano was a gem in every way in helping me sell my condo in Naples.  She is very knowledgeable, has had great experience, is trustworthy, and a very diligent and persistent  realtor.  She worked with me in every aspect.  She always answered my questions, was in constant contact about the sale, and really seemed to care about me as a person.   I would highly recommend her as one of the best in Naples.  If and when I need a realtor again in Naples, I will most definitely be in touch with Christine."

Rebecca Gotheridge, Naples, FL

"Just a word of thanks for putting sales agent Christine Citrano on your team.  She recently closed the sale of our condo in a very short time frame in what could be described as an extremely difficult market to sell into and at a very fair price.  We found her to be knowledgeable, tireless, aggressive, flexible, and fair.  We surmissed that before contracting with her and were never disappointed.  Christine is a true professional and we would certainly make her our first call for all our real estate needs in the future."
